While most people don’t take baths in their tub, most have a way of stopping up the water and allow you to do so. A design that has been around for a long time is a tub stopper that is attached to a chain and a lever. While these usually work flawlessly for the lifetime of the tub, there is a possibility that the plunger gets disconnected from the chain and gets stuck in the position where it blocks the water. To fix this problem, all you need is a screwdriver and something that you can use to hook onto the plunger, such as a metal wire hanger.
Usually, there will be a plate by the lever that you can remove to get access to the shaft where the plunger is located. When you have removed the lever and the plate, you should be able to get the plunger hooked with your wire hanger. Make sure that the chain hasn’t gotten too short for the plunger to work correctly. You might need to adjust it a couple of times to get it to the point where it once again can block the water if you want to do so.
