While the height of tornado season is behind us, there are still chances that a tornado could form this late in the year. Sometimes, late tornadoes can be more dangerous because of being unexpected. When a tornado is heading your way, there is usually precious little time to get ready for it. Knowing how to act is going to make the difference between the safety of your family and putting all your lives at risk.
If you live in a mobile home, the safest course is to get out and find a safe place to ride out the storm, but if you live in a stable, well-built home, there are places that are safer than others. Staying away from windows is a no-brainer, but you should also know what parts of your home are more likely to remain standing after the onslaught of a tornado.
If you have a basement, this is usually the safest place in any home, but if not, finding shelter underneath a stair or in a bathroom will be your second best option.
