Energy bills can greatly increase in the summer. On average it can cost up to $300 a year to run the air conditioning at home. Here are a few ways to cut your electric bill this summer so you can stay cool and still have money left for other summer pleasures.
- Keep the air filter in the air conditioner clean. If the filter is clogged your air conditioner will not run as efficiently. Keep the filter clean all summer not just at the beginning. Vacuuming and sanitizing the filter will save you money.
- Install window film. Window film can allow you to enjoy the beautiful sun and view while conserving energy. The film will make your home feel cooler so you don’t have to run the air conditioner as much.
- Open a window. Opening a window at night will give your AC a breather. If it’s still a little warm you can install a window-mounted fan. This will allow you to bring that night air in and push the hot air out. Your energy bills will be lower than you ever thought possible.
- Use a draft blocker. Depending on the type of doors you have, not using a draft blocker could be like running the air while your windows are cracked open. Draft blockers are not expensive and you can save money in the long run.
