As a homeowner, you probably spend quite a bit of time making sure that everything is in good repair, but one thing that is easily overlooked is outdoor masonry work. These might seem like they are sturdy and that they will last a long time without any maintenance, but this is not the case. It is actually quite possible that you already have some damage to your outdoor masonry work that will ultimately destroy it, but you can’t see it yet. What happens is that water makes its way into the masonry work, and when the changing seasons cause it to expand and contract, it will slowly break the masonry work apart.
This means that you will need to keep water away. There are two aspects to the process. Covering the masonry work with a sealant will prevent water from seeping in, but you should also make sure that there is proper grading around the masonry work, so that water doesn’t pool up around it.
